The Real Gelatin Trick: A Daily Ritual to Satisfy Cravings, Soothe Your Gut & Support Aging Gracefully

By Leslie Bumpas, FNTP

Lately, there’s been a whisper in wellness circles about something called “the gelatin trick.”

It’s trending on social media, with influencers claiming that gelatin might be a “natural Ozempic,” capable of activating satiety hormones like GLP-1 to help manage hunger and promote weight loss.

But here's the truth: you can’t hack your health with one ingredient. And you don’t need to.

What we always focus on at Redeeming Wellness are those small, attainable habits that add up. And, I have a nutrient dense addition that supports your body at a cellular level.

I’ve cooked up my own “gelatin snack” that supports gut health, hormone balance, metabolism, skin, and even mitochondrial energy. And yes, it tastes good too.

This is not a trendy health hack. It’s a strategic use of food as medicine to help stabilize energy, curb cravings, and support the foundational systems that keep you feeling vibrant.

What Makes This a Daily Ritual

This recipe combines deeply supportive ingredients that go beyond “fullness” to address the real needs of women navigating hormonal transitions:

  • Gelatin and collagen are rich in glycine, alanine, and proline—amino acids that help repair the gut lining, reduce inflammation, and promote the production of GLP-1 and GIP (hormones associated with satiety and insulin regulation).

  • Green tea extract delivers antioxidant support and metabolic benefits, particularly through EGCG, which supports fat oxidation and protects against oxidative stress.

  • Pomegranate or tart cherry juice provides polyphenols and Urolithin A precursors—powerful compounds that support mitochondrial function, cellular energy, and muscle maintenance as we age.

  • Chia seeds provide soluble fiber that supports digestion, blood sugar balance, and gentle hormone detoxification.

  • Turmeric (optional) offers anti-inflammatory benefits that support joints, brain health, and metabolic function.

This is not a trendy health hack. It’s a strategic use of food as medicine—something that can become part of your daily rhythm to stabilize energy, curb cravings, and support the foundational systems that keep you feeling vibrant.

The Real Gelatin Trick Squares

Pomegranate Green Tea Gelatin Squares with Collagen & Chia

Makes: About 12 squares (in an 8x8" dish or silicone mold)
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Chill Time: 2–3 hours

Ingredients

  • 1 cup filtered water

  • ½ cup unsweetened pomegranate OR tart cherry juice

  • 2 tbsp grass-fed beef gelatin (not collagen—this is for gelling)

  • 1 scoop collagen peptides (about 10 grams)

  • 1 tsp green tea extract powder (or 1 green tea bag steeped in ¼ cup hot water, concentrated)

  • 2 tbsp chia seeds

  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder (optional, for inflammation support)

  • Sweetener to taste (stevia, monk fruit, or 1–2 tsp raw honey)

Instructions

  1. Bloom the gelatin:
Pour ½ cup water into a bowl. Sprinkle the gelatin evenly over it and let it bloom (absorb and thicken) for 5 minutes.

  2. Heat the remaining liquids:
In a small saucepan, combine the remaining ½ cup water and ½ cup juice. Gently heat until steaming—not boiling.

  3. Dissolve the gelatin:
Add the bloomed gelatin to the warm liquid and whisk until fully dissolved.

  4. Add in actives:
Remove from heat and whisk in the collagen peptides, green tea extract or concentrate, turmeric (if using), and your chosen sweetener.

  5. Cool slightly, then add chia:
Let the mixture cool for about 5–7 minutes, then stir in the chia seeds.

  6. Chill to set:
Pour into an 8x8" glass dish or silicone mold. Refrigerate for 2–3 hours until set.

  7. Slice and serve:
Cut into squares and store in the fridge for up to 5 days.
